Free Verse # 168 (and the fires of hell burned in her eyes)

…and the fires of hell burned in her eyes.

~

The desert sands best know the water’s taste.

~

There be one limitless thing in this world, the sky, and it stretches between the corners of your eyes.

~

I pin you with the softest things of all, my breath, my heartbeat, my thought.

~

My words, in the glow of your presence, burn and vanish.

~

The night
which soothes tired eyes
brings no rest to my soul
which must wander amid stars
in search of my beloved.

~

Though spring in the air sings,
Quiet the bird, perched on the branch.

~

Inhaling her scent
the garden becomes a honeycomb,
each flower tilting heavy and drunk
with honeyed-wine.

~

Utter loneliness-
In her mother’s cold bosom
An autumn leaf sighs.

~

Deep grows the night
As for her I wait
And when the moon
Tolls the dome of heavens
Stars begin to weep in my heart

~

The moon at dawn,
a transparent world
soaking in a stillness so deep
melts inside out…

~

Your tears,
stars falling to my pillow,
and there, throughout the night,
lingering, deeply soaking,
at dawn blooming,
a garden in my heart.

~

I caught you in my breath,
a poem weaved of stillness,
of a dawn bloomed in my heart.

~

Let your waiting
be a song,
like that of a bird
at the outskirts of dawn.

~

Lay me into you softly, gently,
as the sun lays her breath
on the still face of dawn.

~

Is your breath billowing
outside or inside of me, love?
I can no longer tell,
nor can my eyes map
the edges of my reality.

~

Where the wild things grow,
there, in your heart,
I’ll let my poem flow.

~

My poem –
the wind sifting through your hair
on an early spring morn.
