Free Verse # 243 (an awakened breath)

At dawn she woke
And the hills were crying
For a touch of her feet

~

A passing comet
In the shadow of her eyes,
Furrowing a fire
To spread through her skies.

~

Words strung together, becoming poetry at the touch of her fingertips.

~

All night long it rained
And I slept, half awake,
Feeling the rain
Kindling the fires
Raging in my flesh,
Cooling the wounds
Where her skin from mine
Was severed,
Where she should’ve been
Sleeping, like a dream curved.

~

Though darkness covered her
She lay deeper still
Than the abyss of night,
A womb so deep
The oldest stars could not fathom,
Nor time on its hem sleep.

~

Still waiting,
A closed bud
In the summer.

~

Soaked in honeyed wine
Our souls shall it twine
This our silent kiss
Wrought with mirth and bliss
Come to rest with ease
Lay upon the breeze

~

Our kiss
The language of fire
Raw in the volcano’s mouth

~

She sighed as she slept
And her breath
Like a word of light
I felt against my neck,
Soaking through my vein
To melt in my heart,
And beat.

~

Her silence wounded me deeper than the harshest word could.

~

Like a prayer
I hold my lips against yours,
Burning coals and incense,
A silence so deep
Intoning our souls,
An awakened breath.

~

All night long awake
Listening to the rain fall and fall,
Caressing in me a vague memory,
The scent of the earth
Embracing me like a womb.

~

Touch her like the silence strokes the face of dawn.

~

She lingers in me
As the breath of God
On the first day of creation

~

As a ray of light
Falling through the clouds
This poem passes through my ribs
To dance on her face,
A red sun at twilight
Melting in the sea.

~

All night long
Your voice bleeds into me,
Filling my heart with stars.
At dawn
From my lips it overflows,
The silence of the sky.

~

My poem, a fragment in her boundless sea.

~

My hair is a black forest, she said, teeming with ravens and bats; he looked and saw nothing but a dawn filled doves and silent waves of light.

~

I touched her
The way the silence kisses
The white face of dawn

~

The harmony of their unified breathing, a moon perched on the branch of dawn.
