Free Verse # 256 (closer than a heartbeat to a beating heart)

The salt of your tears
In my skin lingers,
White crystals gathering me
Into the blaze of your light,
A poem dissolved
On love’s hidden shore.

~

‘How close do you feel me,’ she asked him, ‘closer than a heartbeat to a beating heart,’ he replied.

This kiss –
our open hearts
a single flame burning,
subsumed into the living core,
the heart of the One.

~

At dawn
the tears she cried
all through the night
I find in my eyes –
salt and poetry.

~

Falling through the darkness
The rain carved my bones
Into a river of longing
Amid the hills of silence flowing
Aching to merge with the sea of her soul

On the branch of dawn
we swayed,
two birds lost in the silence
of our open hearts.
