I Have Wanted You

I have wanted you
the way the dry summer earth
envisions the autumn rain;
I have wanted you
the way the brown autumn leaf
envisions herself sleeping in the warm womb of the earth;
I have wanted you
the way the coursing river
envisions himself melting in the wide ocean;
I have wanted you
the way the blossoming flower
envisions her heart open to butterfly and bee;
I have wanted you
the way the wine in the cellar’s darkness
envisions himself burning in inebriated veins;
I have wanted you
the way the earth sleeping under winter snows
envisions life bursting through her flesh and veins;
I have wanted you
in more ways than I can count,
with more madness and clarity
than the poets’ words can contain;
I have wanted you
and I’ll want you
until this breath in me
is free to roam the open sky once again.
And even then, I’ll still want you…

    What a wonderful, powerful ending.
    This is great work!
