Free Verse # 287 (our fingers touched)

Woven by one beat
her heart and mine,
an ocean halved,
two bodies aching
to merge once more

Our love –
a bird balanced
on a thin wire,
a mountain rising
from earth’s heart,
a sky so wide
it envelops the sky.

Sweet the silence –
night lulling our lips
into moth-wings quivering
inside the fire of a kiss

With the dawn breeze
sending my heartbeats
to drink from her lips

Our fingers touched –
like two fireflies
our souls flickered
for a moment
then were engulfed
in the torrential flood of light

I touch you
and my name
slips from memory,
all that I am
becomes flame and poetry
and the song that fashioned
the oceans of love.
