Free Verse # 11

Long and hard
I toiled for the pearl of wisdom,
plunging into the deepest,
most turbulent ocean of thought,
and staying awake on many a night
oblivious to the stars
polishing its surface
with the oil of my heart
until at last,
swelling with pride,
its waves carried my pearl
as a gift into the house of love
where, placed upon its table,
its hammer swiftly fell
grinding it to nothing
and filling me with dawn.

Cosmogony of One

With supple fingers
My Beloved stringed
Love’s infinite droplets
Into crescent moons,
Bracelets for my arms
And a necklace
Around my neck
Binding my roots
Stems and leaves
To Her sky and womb.

Midnight,
Perched amid the stars,
Like winds of homecoming
Her breath billowed inside of me
While the milk of Her breasts
Through my mouth and veins gushed
Thick and warm and lush;
The waxing moons grew sharp
Biting into my skin and sinking,
Reverberating ecstasy in waves
Through the sea of stars,
Concentric ripples all beating
In Her womb and heart.

Full moons,
Head and hands lost
As downward I poured
In infinite droplets
Sinking in the earth
To nourish eager mouths
And roots and beating hearts
And grow –
Fruits in the belly of love,
Whispers upon the merging lips of lovers,
And crescent moons stringed
By my Beloved
To adorn the hands and neck
Of love.

White Pearl of Silence

I’ve hung to mind’s thread for far too long,
an ever thinning string of hope
keeping me from wholly drowning in the stew
brewing somewhere in unknown depths.

The ribbon of mist suddenly evanesces
as into the sky I fall,
a wine-ocean fermenting lost voices at dusk
to give them back bright clear at dawn.

Heart, a seashell opens,
on the silken, red tongue
the white pearl of silence.

Breath

Dusk, a crimson cloud
Of lost voices, breathing – snow,
In softest flame, drowned.

~

Soft edge of twilight,
The grapes, gold flushed, contemplate
– white face of the moon.

~

Below this full moon
I bared my soul to the rose,
She smiled, soothing me.

~

Waxing poetic,
Rose and flower sigh at me,
Blinking wide – suckle.

~

Deep into the wood
The deer leaped, and vanished,
Stealing all my thoughts.
